How to Prepare Your Tractor for Shipment

The preparation of the tractor and other equipment is necessary for a better shipping experience

Step Icon
Complete all required documentation before pickup.
Step Icon
Start by cleaning your tractor thoroughly, then take a picture of it from all angles. It will help you identify and address any damage that may occur to your equipment during transportation. Ensure that all tie-down parts are clean, clearly visible, and easily accessible. Drain fuel from the equipment up to the required level and disconnect the battery connection.
Step Icon
Check the working condition of the equipment and ensure it is in good working order, with no leaks. Identify the removable parts that can be damaged during transportation. Fasten or detach them as needed, as this reduces the risk of damage. If the tractor is transported with hydraulic attachments, like a pallet fork, grapple, dozer, loader bucket, or any other, lower them as much as possible to the lowest position to avoid the over-height issue. If there is any of your stuff in the tractor, remove it before loading.
Step Icon
Ensure that the pickup location is accessible.

The Right Trailer for Every Haul

We ship all kinds of tractors and other farm equipment.

RGN Trailers Icon

RGN Trailers

RNG trailers have a power capacity to carry weights ranging from 42,000 lbs to 15,000 lbs. These trailers are considered the perfect choice for shipping heavy-duty and oversized tractors

Step Deck Trailers Icon

Step Deck Trailers

They are a better option for transporting taller loads. Its deck is 20 inches lower than a standard flatbed trailer, which reduces the height of taller loads. We transport these medium-sized tractors equipped with attachments onto step-deck trailers.

Flatbed Trailers Icon

Flatbed Trailers

Most of the loads at Allstate are carried by standard flatbed trailers, as they open up and allow for quick loading and unloading. We transport standard-sized tractors onto the flatbed trailer, as they are the most appropriate choice for shipping.

How Much Does Tractor Shipping Cost?

The table above shows that the per-mile cost for long distances is consistently decreasing, but the aggregate shipping costs increase with increased distances. For an exact cost estimate, use our cost calculator or contact a customer support agent

The cost to ship tractors varies based on several factors, including their weight, dimensions, distance, accessibility for pickup and delivery, and the time of year. These are some of the main elements that influence the overall transportation cost.

Distance in miles Per-mile cost Total Cost Category
Up to 100 $3.00 -$6.50 $3,00-$8,00 Short distance
200 $2.50-$6.00 $4,00-$9,50 -
300 $2.25-$4.50 $4,50-$1,150 -
400 $1.75-$4.00 $5,50-$1,400 -

Factors that Affect Cost

Distance & Route Complexity

The distance and route complexity greatly influence the cost of tractor transport. Shorter distances and simpler routes tend to have lower transportation costs because shipments are completed more quickly, reducing labor, fuel consumption, tolls, and other expenses, which in turn decrease the final shipping price.
Conversely, longer distances and routes with heavy traffic and congested roads result in higher costs due to increased travel time, higher fuel consumption, increased labor costs, additional tolls and taxes, and increased vehicle wear and tear.

check icon

Tractor Size & Weight

The dimensions of the tractor are one of the most determining factors in transport cost. The costs of transporting heavy tractors are higher because specialized trailers are required for their shipping, and powerful vehicles are needed to tow those trailers. More fuel and time are consumed because of their heavier weight.
A transport permit is required if the weight exceeds the standard limit, as well as forklift prep time needed for loading and unloading. Conversely, the tractor with small and medium-sized dimensions incurs a lower cost, as it faces considerably less in permit compared to a heavier tractor or a larger, oversized model.

check icon

Season & Fuel Rates

Seasonality and fuel prices are the most significant contributors to the cost of tractor transport. The demand for transporting farming and agricultural machinery typically increases during the spring and fall seasons, when farmers and agribusinesses require transportation of tractors, trailers, harvesters, and other farm equipment for agricultural activities.
As demand increases, so does the total cost. Similarly, during the off-season, shipping demand drops, which tends to lower transport rates. It’s the perfect time to take advantage of cost-effective transportation.
